Are student activities in universities normally made for undergrads?

Is it a common scenario in any university that graduate students involve themselves very little in student activities such as associations / unions / student politics etc.

Are student activities in universities normally made for undergrads?
Student activities in colleges and universities are exclusively geared toward undergraduates. Student government associations, majors associations, etc. are BY and FOR undergraduates.

Graduate students have their own associations, such as a Graduate Student Association (the equivalent of an undergraduate student government), and a Future Professoriate program (a preparation program for those who wish to become professors, obviously). These programs are much fewer in number (and lower in participation) than undergrad associations because grad students are usually only concerned with their academic work in their own departments.
Reply:Yes most student activities is geared towards undergraduates but most colleges do have a few activities for graduate students. If your school doesn't have anything go to the student activities office and request to start one.
Reply:I beg to differ from Prof. X. As a Masters students working on a degree in Student Personnel in Higher Education and having just spent a summer working at the Student Development Center in a large research university in TX I can definitely say student activities are /not/ geared exclusively towards undergraduate students.

One of our biggest frustrations in the field is trying to figure out how to get graduate students involved in the large institutional community instead of just within their own departments. In that Proff. X is right, graduate students tend to be very focused on their academic work (as well as usually having a lot of other demands on their time, like part-time work, families, etc.) than undergrads so it is very hard to get them to participate in co-curricular activities. But student activities planned by student affairs personnel are mostly planned with /all/ students at a college or university in mind, with a few exceptions, like first-year welcoming activities or a few other activities that are planned with a specific sub-section of the student population in mind.
