Should student athletes in D-1 (division 1) sports should be paid beyond scholarship, room/board?

there are many things to consider in this situation. a few things to consider are: the amount of time that the students put into practice, the fact that the coaches get paid an insane amount of money, the fact that teams have contracts with different companies, the travelling and airtime on tv that students have to do, march madness, etc. etc. it's almost like these student athletes are professionals, but without the millions of dollars that professionals make on top of their scholarships and room/board.

I am a student-athelte at a D1 college, and I can honestly say that I don't think we should get paid. I look at my sport as my job, and I look at my scholarship as my pay. Yes, I put way more time into soccer then I do into anything else, but I am in college for free, and I love the game, otherwise I wouldn't be playing it.





I can definately see where your coming from, and I can see why it brings up a decent argument. But professionals get paid because their sport is their job. Student-athletes get scholarships, publicity, and the opportunity to play the sport that they love at a high level to gain a ton of experience for what comes next.





I'm looking at soccer in college as the next step in my athletic career. I plan on playing overseas when I graduate; there I expect to get paid.

Reply:absolutely not. why not just integrate collegiate sports and professional sports then? it will take so much passion out of the game that exists so prevalently in college sports right now.

where woudl the salary come from?


a higher tuition cost? tha somone from the athletes party still has to pay?





there is a whole different aura of college sports and throwign money at individual players would only cause problems, however, money for the program is never a bad thing!
