Nursing QUESTION: what should the student do (check details)?

A nursing student enters the elevator at the hospital where they are assigned for clinical practice. Another nursing student enters the elevator along with an unidentified woman. The second nursing student exclaims that a code has just been called on a male client on the 5th floor, and he is not expected to live. The second student asks the first nursing student if they know anything about the code.

What should the first nursing student do?

Nursing QUESTION: what should the student do (check details)?
She should tell the student to keep her mouth shut.
Reply:Keep quiet about the code and inform the second student not to discuss it. It is against HIPAA regulations to discuss anything about any patient when there is an unidentified third person within hearing. The second student had no business saying anything about the code.

In this case, the unidentified woman could have been a relative or a friend of the person being coded.

Just as an aside, I have been present at approximately 300 codes. Only one of those people lived long enough to leave the hospital. As you may guess,I am a bit cynical about codes. Good luck with your studies!
Reply:wait until the unidentified woman is not present to explain the code due to confidentiality.
Reply:cry
