If a student gets a 86 on the project, what score can she get on the final exam to get a grade of at least 90?

a professor announces that course grades will be completed by taking 40% of a student's project score (0-100 points) and adding 60% of the student's final exam score (0-100 points). If a student gets a 86 on the project, what score can she get on the final exam to get a course grade of at least 90?

If a student gets a 86 on the project, what score can she get on the final exam to get a grade of at least 90?
the student would then need to get at least a 92.6% to earn a 90% on their final exam grade. good luck. =]
Reply:Let f be the final exam grade. Your score will be 40% of 86, or .4(86) and 60% of f, or .6f. You want the grade to be at least (i.e. greater than or equal to) 90, so

.4(86) + .6f %26gt;= 90

34.4 + .6f %26gt;= 90

.6f %26gt;= 55.6

f %26gt;= 55.6/.6

f %26gt;= 92.67

Assuming integer scores are the only ones possible, she has to get at least a 93.
