I need a student loan but my credit isn't the greatest and so far the places I have tried have turned me down since I have no co-signer. Anyone know of anywhere that may give a student loan to someone lacking a co-signer and great credit? I thought these were supposed to be easy to obtain.
Student Loan?
No, they're not. I have awesome credit and had a difficult time getting a loan without a cosigner. See if you can come up with someone.. anyone. I had my bf cosign and his credit is far worse than mine, not to mention he has a ton of student loans himself. Just keep trying.
Isn't college just grand?
Reply:First fill out your FAFSA form to see if you are eligible for any grants or federal loans. After that contact a lender to see what your options are. I recommend http://www.studentaidlending.com

Reply:Have you talked to your financial aid office? Governmental student loans do not require a cosigner usually and they give them out to people with horrible credit. The financial aid office should be able to help you find a loan that is best for you. You won't have any luck doing it on your own (trust me, i tried too).
Reply:http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Is the place to apply for federal financial aid, Stafford loans and pell grants etc.

Reply:salliemae.com see if you can't get a family member who has better credit to co-sign for you....mom, dad, grandma, grandpa !
Reply:Actually student loans are really hard to get unless you have a parent to co-sign for you. Then they'll be willing to give me whatever you like.
To get one in your own name, your parent has to make very little money. It doesn't matter whether or not you even talk to them, if they make a decent amount of money, they will expect your parents to help contribute. The only other way to get it in your own name is if you are over a certain age, I believe 24 or 25.
