What if a universtiy student begins to date a high school Teacher, is that legal?

Seriously. People say it's wrong for teachers to have a relationship with students. What if the student doesn't belong to the teachers school or the student belongs to a university. The teacher holds no power over the student. So does that still make it illegal.


If you answer please use reason and try to use proof if you can find it.


This is a totally random thought and I wish to know the legal answer for it

It's not illegal even if the two are in the same classroom. No one's going to jail unless the student is underage.





But it is *unethical* because it destroys the authority structure in the classroom. It increases the possibility of favoritism, blackmail, and general tension among everyone involved. Teachers can be fired for it, but that's because of these ethical reasons, not any legal ones.





If the teacher and student are not in a power relationship, then it probably doesn't matter -- but there are still possible issues. There might be other friends or acquaintances involved in one classroom or the other. Or there might be a drastic age difference that would cause problems in any relationship, especially if others don't approve of it.





But no, we don't need to come up with a legal answer, because it's not a legal matter. Dating between a student and teacher of legal age is not prohibited by law.
Reply:Age is the biggest factor here. If the student in not over 18 well that it is illegal.





Still even if the student was 18 many would look down on the relationship. The older adult would in many people eyes be taking advantage of the younger inexperienced adult. Life is about learning and time does play a factor.
Reply:Once a student is out of High School, he or she may have relations with a High School teacher. I have not tried to find any proof of this, but while I was in High School, a former student who had graduated the year past, was dating one of our teachers %26amp; got her pregnant. Therefore, I do believe that it IS legal.
