Advice on student loans..................?
Hi there.

Never has the phrase "They are all the same!" been so true.

Check out moneysupermarket.com and the student part of the Sunday Times website, but in reality the best way to make the choice is, who is giving the most useful and/or valuable freebies?

Good luck, Steve.
Reply:VERY IMPORTANT

You should set up a Student Bank Account with a bank that offers the highest overdraft facility to you - immediately. Go into the banks and discuss. Some banks such as RBS and Natwest ask you to credit your account and then ask that you spend your money for a few months and contact them again to consider activating the overdraft. The only thing that matters is the Overdraft amount.

The second most important thing is the Unauthorised Overdraft Bank Account Charges. Make sure you know what they are, and the bank gives you clear advice.

That is the single most important criterion for you.

Also, you should also be very resourceful and actually set up 2 or more Student Accounts at the same time using your UCAS details and proof of being a studentThis will prove invaluable in your subsequent years when your expenditure needs will rise (after the initial Fresher expenditure) .
Reply:As you don't understand the bank jargon the easiest thing for you would be to go in and speak to someone and then them to explain exactly what is meant by the terms. This will be better for you as all your questions will be answered and if anything isn't clear to you you will have it all explained. I think that you should do this as well as looking on the internet so that you get the whole picture and you are not mislead in any way.
Reply:you dont need to open a student account if you already have an account thats what I do as I was working before study. but some people prefer student ones which have overdrafts which are student friendly and relatively interest free. But yeah its best to go into each branch and ask an advisor to describe the benefits of banking with them. Okay I hope this helped.
Reply:salliemae or nelnet are good ones...my husbands are thru sallie and mine are nelnet...they both worked out combining multi loans with different lenders...i did most of the work thru internet and faxes...good luck..
Reply:What you might want to do is go to a bank and tell them what you need done. If they start going into a whole thing that you don't understand just tell them to explain it to you in simpler terms and ask them questions if you don't understand something. That may be of more help to you than a website :)
